my family and other crafters
From Groceries to Crafters – Our Journey
Sadly we had to take the decision to close the Village Store as it was no longer viable. This was a decision we did not want to take, even offering the premises as a community shop without success. We decided to refurbish the shop and do something that I could enjoy and fit around the needs of my youngest child who has special needs.
Living in a rural area, located at the foot of Pen-y-ghent in the North Yorkshire National Park and with limited opportunities and funds I wanted a business which would enhance opportunities and my own sense of satisfaction and achievement. I wantd to increase my social interaction whilst prioritising my child’s needs .
I established Sew Hands On on 11th August 2018.
Tea-room, Studio & Shop
We offer a warm and friendly welcome to all.
We provide a friendly hub for visitors and local residents. Somewhere you can call in for a well deserved rest and a cuppa with a slice of cake after a day walking…or working!
Sew Hands On provides an outlet for the collective creativity we have found all over the Dales. An outlet of and for the talent we are continually discovering.
I sew, draw and am learning the ancient art of spinning. Being the owner of Sew Hands on allows me to hone my own creativity whilst fulfilling my primary role of carer.
We are open 7 days a week during the Summer,
During Winter we are open 3 days a week, currently Friday 10am – 2pm, Saturday & Sunday 10am – 4pm.
Call in for a gift, something to take back home to say thank you for feeding the cat.
A souvenir mug or a place mat, to serve as a trophy for the desk at work.
Call in for individually hand crafted items. We have a wide range of gifts including something for every budget.

The Art of the Ancient Crafts
Our bank of local talent is being added to on a regular basis and we never quite know who or what may happen to just walk in from one day to the next!
We aim to offer local crafters an affordable outlet and opportunity to promote themselves, their work and the Yorkshire Dales.
I aim to provide a window into the past and provide an opportunity for all visitors to learn about and appreciate age old arts and crafts.
